CHICAGO, ILLINOIS (April 2019) – Continuing its tradition of making its communities better places to live, work and visit, this year Marriott International will be in Chicago, activating their sustainability and social impact platform, Serve 360: Doing Good in Every Direction, with their largest-ever volunteer initiative in one location in Marriott’s history. On Friday, April 5th, in partnership with Network Volunteers and 45 Chicago cause organizations, 4,000 Marriott associates from all over the country, will participate in a number of acts of service around the city including: revitalizing community parks, beautifying neighborhood schools, replenishing public gardens, and assisting in various shelters and offices across the city. This event will support Marriott’s goal to contribute 15M hours of volunteerism in its communities around the world by 2025.
2019 is the 10year anniversary of Holiday Heroes! To celebrate, we are doing a big campaign around National Superhero Day, which is April 28th. The Marriott employees who chose to partner with us are going to help make this campaign possible. They will be assembling 2,000 Captain America frisbees that we will be giving out, prepping materials for 480 craft kit boxes as well as packing those craft kit boxes that will be going from their hands into the hands of the patients on April 28th. The Marriott employees will also be helping us to prep materials for our annual gala and craft supplies needed for parties to come. Being a small team, we are so incredibly thankful for all of the help in getting these items completed!
Marriott International executives are visiting Chicago to attend the company’s 2019 General Managers’ Conference, a bi-annual event that brings together key leaders from Marriott’s Classic and Distinctive Select Brands to foster teamwork, leadership and social impact. This marks the first conference since the announcement of the brand’s newly renamed travel program, Marriott Bonvoy, replacing Marriott Rewards, The Ritz-Carlton Rewards and Starwood Preferred Guest (SPG). Brands represented at the conference include: Courtyard, Four Points by Sheraton, Residence Inn, SpringHill Suites, Fairfield by Marriott, and TownePlace Suites as part of the Classic category, and AC Hotels by Marriott, Aloft Hotels, Moxy Hotels, and Element by Westin as part of the Distinctive category.
“As a leader in the hospitality industry, Marriott has a responsibility and opportunity to be a force for good in the cities where our brands operate, and Chicago is no exception,” says Janis Milham, senior vice president and Global Brand Leader, Classic Select Brands, Marriott International. “Having 4,000 Marriott associates participate in our Serve 360 event in Chicago will create a meaningful impact in this city that relies on travel and hospitality. We are happy to break from our conference to bring our brands together and lend a hand to the city.”
“This conference gives our General Managers the opportunity to step away from the day-to-day and reconnect with our core brand values, sharing best practices on how to pull them through in the hotel experience in a meaningful way every day,” said Toni Stoeckl, Vice President and Global Brand Leader, Distinctive Select Brands, Marriott International. “Serve 360 is a central pillar of all our brands at Marriott International, so we are excited to be able to give our GMs the opportunity to engage with the program and see how they can Do Good In Every Direction in their own backyard when they return home.”
“We are elated to have Marriott International as a partner and for their support in this volunteer opportunity,” says Bridgette Ferraro, Executive Director of Holiday Heroes. “We host packing parties with generous companies nearly every month, but this will be our largest event ever! We are looking forward to setting a record with the Marriott team!”
