We had a great Valentines Party at Northshore Hospital in Evanston on Wednesday. Katelyn, the child life specialist was great to work with and it was fun watching her do her job and interact with the families. We had a steady stream of kids come to the activity room, 7 in all. We had teens on down to infants and we had some repeat consumers! Our teenager, with her perfect messy bun, was painting her frame and making her card but had to leave us for a few minutes. She was back before long with her smile and enthusiasm for crafts. A mom and 10 month old came down for a change of scenery and together painted a beautiful frame.
We were able to visit about 12 friends in their rooms and give them toys and a craft kit box. They greeted us with smiles and were a pleasure to serve.
A shout out to Debbie and Lori for being such great volunteers. It was their first party and they travelled far to get there. They have supported Holiday Heroes at many events in the past and we appreciate them making the drive to our King and Queen’s party!
We were able to have some fun conversations with our new friends at the hospital. We even got our shy little 5 year old friend to crack a smile. She loved the heart stickers!
